LAHORE, June 5: The Punjab PML-N expressed on Thursday anguish over the media trial of exiled leaders Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif.

A resolution adopted at a party meeting demanded that obstacles should be removed to enable the Sharifs to return home.

Another resolution said that efforts to make the LFO a part of the Constitution should be given up. The crisis created by the LFO controversy was against the interest of the country and must be settled without delay.

The participants in the meeting rejected the resolution passed by the Punjab Assembly in support of Gen Pervez Musharraf. They said Rafiq Tarar was still the constitutional president. They further said that to elect a successor of Mr Tarar, the relevant authorities should announce the election schedule.

Another resolution expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the Punjab and condemned the police action against the opposition legislators.
