DERA GHAZI KHAN, Oct 27: Border Military Police on Sunday beefed up security in and around Rodo oilfield, Tuman Qaisrani, some 150-km from here, after some locals allegedly tried to attack the installation in protest against the proposed sale of Rodo land to a private petroleum firm.

Some days back, tribesmen, comprising scores of youth, during a protest entered the oilfield. They were protesting against the proposed sale of oilfield land to a firm and demanding jobs for locals.

The BMP had also arrested two protesters namely Akber and Haider after registration of a case against them.

BMP Commandant Maher Riaz told Dawn that the military police had arrested two protest leaders. He said the government was ready to fulfill ‘genuine’ demands of locals.

Meanwhile, Balochistan National Party Dera Ghazi Khan District President Kaka Buzdar said the arrested were members of BNM. “BNM is a political party and it takes part in parliamentary elections in the country and we believe in political process.”
