LAHORE, Oct 26: A former divisional superintendent of Pakistan Railways was arrested in Lahore on Saturday after allegations of misuse of authority and corruption were proved against him.

During his posting as Multan divisional superintendent in 2011-12, Muhammad Ali Rajper, in connivance with head clerk Malik Riaz and STEs group inspector Sarfraz Khan, promoted Class-IV staff, appointed temporary labourers (TLAs) and changed cadre of certain employees while misusing his authority.

The affected employees submitted complaints with the minister in-charge and the Railways Police inspector general. An inquiry was ordered by the Railways Police IG. Some 30 or so affected employees recorded statements with PR police DSP Muhammad Iqbal against Mr Rajper, Mr Malik and Mr Khan.

In the light of the findings of the inquiry, a case was registered against the accused on Friday and Mr Malik was taken into custody in Multan and Mr Rajper in Lahore.
