ISLAMABAD, June 3: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday presided over a meeting of the board of governors and trustees of Al-Shifa Eye Trust at the Aiwan-i-Sadr in his capacity as Patron-in-Chief of the Trust.

President of the Trust Lt-Gen (retired) Jahan Dad Khan gave a presentation on the organization’s performance, strategic plan and details of support extending to Afghanistan.

The President was apprised of the Trust’s achievements in the medical field, which included treatment of over three million patients, approximately 200,000 major sight-restoring operations and over 1,000 cornea transplants.

Dr Tariq M. Shaikh from the US and Saeed Ahmed from the UK highlighted the achievements of the Al-Shifa chapters in these countries. The President appreciated the role of the Trust in augmenting the resources for implementation of health policy, especially as part of its district focused programme, which, he said, was a fine example of public-private partnership.—APP
