SAHIWAL, Oct 10: The official residence of the Government Postgraduate College Sahiwal’s principal has been illegally occupied by the widow of its ex-principal who died in February 2010.

Under the Civil Services Rules, the late Dr Yasin’s widow, Rukhsana Yasin, had the legal right to stay in the residence only until June 20, 2010. Dr Anwar Ahmed, the college’s current principal, is living in a rented house outside the college premises.

This was stated by Abdus Salam Dolla, divisional president of the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA), and senior college teachers while talking to the media here on Thursday.

They alleged that Ms Rukhsana was not only defying the orders of the Higher Education secretary, commissioner, DCO and DPO for vacation of the residence but was also violating Section 4, Rule 12, Government Of Punjab Land and Building (recovery of possession) Ordinance 1996. She was fined Rs779,082 as penal rent by the Higher Education secretary, which had increased to Rs11,50,992 now.

It is learnt that a senior female professors’ delegation, on the order of the DPI Colleges, had negotiated with the widow and to convince her to vacate the official residence but in vain.

Dawn learnt from sources that the Punjab Audit department against Audit Para No 4 had asked local district accounts officer to recover Rs11,50,992 penal rent from the widow’s pension on account of illegal occupation of the residence. The Higher Education secretary and the commissioner had also written to the DPO to take action for the vacation of official residence from Rukhsana Yasin. However, no action was taken.

Dawn contacted Rukhsana Yasin but she refused to speak on the issue.
