QUETTA, Oct 9: The Central General Secretary of the National Party (NP), Mir Tahir Bizenjo, has demanded of the federal government to allow the international donor agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to launch relief activities in the earthquake-hit areas of Balochistan.

The government alone, he said, could not rehabilitate 35,000 affected families.

Stopping the international donor agencies from carrying out relief operations in quake-stricken areas of Awaran and Kech districts was unjustified, he said.

“We appeal to the federal government to allow them to carry out rehabilitation work in these areas.”

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday evening, Mr Bizenjo said the federal government was aware of the widespread devastation caused by two quakes in Balochistan.

In order to check any possibility of corruption and misappropriation in distribution of relief goods among the affected people the provincial government was keeping a strict vigil and monitoring the entire process. He said it was not time to play politics and stressed the need to make serious efforts in this regard.
