KARACHI, Oct 8: The Excise and Taxation Department on Tuesday resumed registration of Honda bikes only.

Association of Pakistan Motorcycle Assemblers Chairman Mohammad Sabir Shaikh told Dawn that registration of Chinese-assembled two-wheeler and another Japanese assembled bike were still suspended.

The E&T Department raises around Rs10 million from registration of 400-500 bikes daily by charging Rs2,200 per bike.

He alleged that the Engineering Development Board (EDB) was delaying issuance of production certificate to the other bike assemblers.

The E&T Department had suspended the registration asking the bike assemblers to submit three documents including production certificate from the EDB.

In Punjab, all the assemblers have to submit EDB certificate only once and the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department does not demand this certificate every year, Sabir said.

He claimed that registration of bikes had only been suspended in Karachi since October 1.
