FAISALABAD, Oct 7: The deputy postmaster general was subjected to torture by the gunmen of a PML-N MNA for allegedly pointing a gun at the parliamentarian at the main Pakistan Post Office on Railway Road here on Monday.

MNA Dr Nisar claimed he ranged up Deputy Postmaster Manager Noman Wardag to discuss an issue pertaining to his constituency, but he started taking my interview and asked about my constituency and credentials instead.

Upon his objection, he said Mr Wardag allegedly used abusive language.

“Feeling affront, I visited the GPO where the manager pointed his gun at my chest. Seeing the situation, my gunmen snatched the gun from the deputy postmaster general,” Dr Nisar claimed.

Dr Nisar said the loaded gun of the manager was produced before Regional Police Officer Javeed Islam as evidence and a complaint had been lodged with the Rail Bazaar police against the manager for registration of a case.

GPO employees stopped working and staged a protest demonstration against the torture on Mr Wardag.

Requesting anonymity, an employee told Dawn that nobody knew what actually happened between the MNA and the manager. However, he said scores of employees saw torturing of the manager which was unjustified.

Another employee, who requested not to be named, said the transfer issue of an employee was the cause of a rift between the MNA and the deputy postmaster general.SSP (Operations) Ghulam Mubashar Maikan held talks with the protesters at the GPO. Later, employees ended their protest and demanded action against the MNA.
