KARACHI, Oct 7: A suspected gangster was shot dead in a Lyari locality on Monday in what police described as infighting within criminal gangs.

Officials said two armed motorcyclists fired at Ayaz Niazi alias Bhoora, 30, outside his Moosa Lane house and rode away. He sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. “Niazi was killed by his cousin Ghaffar Niazi for being a police informer,” said Lyari SP Shahnawaz.

He said the deceased was also a nephew of alleged gangster Sultan Niazi alias Snookerwala, who is a member of the Sheeraz Comrade gang.

A Baghdadi police official, Mohammed Khan, said that before joining one of the criminal gangs operating in Lyari, Niazi was allegedly associated with a banned sectarian outfit and was booked for killing Kausar Abbas Zaidi in 2008.

Meanwhile, business and commercial activities remained suspended in parts of Lyari over the killing of two suspected gangsters — Shahzad alias Sheenh (lion) 23, and Shakir alias Dada, 21 — in an alleged encounter that took place during a search operation jointly carried out by Rangers and police in Khadda Market and Nayabad early on Sunday morning.

The Lyari SP said no incident of violence was reported.

The two suspects were allegedly associated with the Wasiullah Lakho gang and allegedly involved in extortion, rape and murder, said the Kalri police.
