KARACHI: Former Sindh High Court Justice Mushir Alam was elevated to the post of judge of the Supreme Court after taking oath from Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in the Karachi Registry of the Supreme Court on Friday.

Justice Maqbool Baqar, who was recently badly injured in a terrorist attack, was elevated as the new Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court after taking oath in the Sindh High Court.

Both ceremonies took place after the appointments were okayed by the Parliamentary Committee on Appointment of Judges to Superior Courts.

The oath ceremony for justice of Supreme Court was attended by judges of the Sindh High Court, officials of the Karachi Bar Association and other council members, while the ceremony for oath taking of Chief Justice of Sindh High Court was attended by judges and lawyers of the Sindh High Court.

In other related news, newly confirmed six judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) took their oath on Friday.

The oath was administered to the judges by LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial in a ceremony held at the LHC judges' lounge.

The ceremony was attended by the LHC judges, law officers, LHC staff, families of the judges and senior lawyers.

The newly confirmed judges include Justice Abdul Sami Khan, Mr. Justice Ibad-ur-Rahman Lodhi, Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Justice Mrs. Aisha A. Malik, Justice Shahid Waheed and Justice Ali Baqar Najfi.

After the confirmation of the six judges, the strength of the LHC confirmed judges has become 33.
