Qazi’s offer to Musharraf

Published May 31, 2003

LAHORE, May 30: The MMA can give Gen Musharraf a year in uniform along with the presidency if he accepts the religious conglomerate’s demands on the LFO and recommendations of the Council of Islamic Ideology.

So said MMA vice-president Qazi Husain in a question-answer session after the Juma prayers.

He said it was not the right impression that the MMA was rigid in its stand.

The Qazi demanded that the LFO should be presented before the parliament.

He was critical of the police action against opposition MPs in the Punjab Assembly. He said in the late Bhutto’s period legislators were thrown out of parliament while now they were baton-charged. He said if the MMA gave a call to people for a march on Islamabad, the government would not be in a position to stop it. The MMA leader dismissed suggestions that the MMA could disintegrate.

He defended NWFP government’s decision to destroy billboards with women images. — Staff Reporter
