KARACHI: Policemen rewarded, promoted

KARACHI, Oct 11: The Sindh government promoted on Thursday DSP Farooq Awan of the Anti-terrorist Wing Karachi to the rank of Superintendent for arresting four terrorists of a banned militant outfit involved in sectarian killings in Karachi.

The government awarded Rs100,000 to the SHO ATW police station, Qamaruzzaman, and Rs50,000 to ASI Atif for their participation in operation.

Four others officials, SI Amir Hameed, ASI Sabir Husain, ASI Jahanzeb, ASI Khuda Bakhsh and Abid Baig, have been promoted to the rank of inspector, SI and ASI, respectively.

On Sept 30, the ATW arrested four accused, Mufti Shahid Hanif, Talha Husain, Khalil and Haider Ali.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that they killed Dr Zafar Husain, Director Research Ministry of Defence; a divisional engineer of the PTCL, Altaf Husain Bangash; Allama Ali Hasnain Naqvi and Dr Ishrat.—PPI
