THE national climate change policy launched in February let many pin hopes on having a better monsoon this year. But the heartbreaking scenes of devastating floods, as were seen over the past few years, are reiterating this year too.
The national climate change policy seems to have done little good for us. The inundating fields, destroyed field produce and countless evacuations have engulfed many lives in their wake, and the repair of the lost or affected infrastructure will require more or less the same part of our budget as was spent in 2012. Our populace and our budget cannot bear making up for the losses of climate change every year.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. What we need are preventive steps.
