United we stand

THIS is with reference to the poem ‘If’ by Misaal Khalique (August 17, 2013). The writer has rightly said that if we become united as a nation, we can fight every trouble, every misery. But we are not at all responsible and we love to fight on petty issues such as race, cast, faith, etc. We should forget all differences and unite. Only this way we can prosper — both at individual and national levels.

The journey of water

THIS is with reference to the feature ‘The journey of water’ by Mohammad Niaz (August 17, 2013). The article was interesting to read and provided us with useful knowledge about the water cycle.

Water is a great blessing of God and it’s the most important element of life. Water covers a long journey before it becomes available to us. We should value this amazing blessing and should utilise its benefits as much as we can, i.e. in its pure form by drinking it, or by consuming water-rich fruits and vegetables.

We should also keep ourselves and our environment neat and clean, but we should also keep in mind that this blessing is beyond the reach of many people and they crave for each and every drop of water. They have to work hard and spend a lot of money to get water. We should just think about such people’s miseries before wasting this precious resource.

Kids, you don’t need mobile phones

THIS is with reference to the technology-based article ‘Touch screens that fascinate your fingertips’ by Muhammad Omar Iftikhar (YW, August 17, 2013). The writer beautifully described the features, pros and cons of touchscreen mobile phones.

No doubt, this new technology is quite useful but it’s also unaffordable for many. So all you kids out there, if you are too young to carry an expensive mobile phone, you don’t need to compel your parents to get you a new touchscreen phone.

Just keep in mind that this article was for your information so that you can get to know about the latest technology being introduced in the world of communication.

However, when you will become mature and responsible, you can surely get a mobile phone. But always keep in mind the dos and don’ts of using a mobile phone.

A mobile phone is meant to keep us in touch with our family and friends — only when required. A mobile phone is not meant to be used for sending thousands of useless texts everyday or make nonsense calls to strangers.

You deserve a luxury only when you know the ‘right’ use of it.

Starting off in the right direction

This is with reference to the article ‘Starting off in the right direction’ by Sara Pirzada (YW, August 17, 2013). The feature was published at the right time when most of the school had either opened or were about to.

Going back to school after a long summer break is truly a tedious and hectic task. During summer holidays our active and energetic routine comes to a halt. We get up late, watch TV for hours or remain stuck to the computer. We often go out with family, dine out and come back home quite late at night.

After all this fun, when we have to get back to the strict school routine, it seems the most difficult task of the world. But as nothing is impossible so a proper planning, strong determination and little physical exercise — just a few days before the schools are to be opened — can help you get in sync with normal school routine.
