FAISALABAD, May 27: The food department has procured 359,000 tons (93 per cent of the target) of wheat from the district growers.

This was stated by a department spokesman while talking to newsmen here on Tuesday. He said efforts were being made to provide basic facilities to the growers.

He claimed that the district food department had so far purchased 359,000 tons of wheat out of the target of 385,000 tons.

All the officials concerned had been directed to perform their duties efficiently, he added.

Traffic rules: SP (Traffic) Zahid Sherazi said on Tuesday that a campaign would be launched against the illegal use of blue lights and black panes in vehicles, over-speeding and disregard for road-markings and traffic signals.

Speaking at a function under the auspices of traffic police and CPLC (traffic) in a local hotel, he said that steps were being taken to create awareness about traffic rules among the masses. Drivers, transporters, students and people belonging to different walks of life had been included in the awareness drive, he added.

CPLC chairman Maj-Gen Abdul Qayyum and vice-chairman Shahzad Siddique said that experts from Lahore were reviewing a plan to arrange signals, square and roundabouts in accordance with traffic engineering methods.

Prizes were distributed on the occasion among girl and boy students securing prominent positions in a declamation contest on “Traffic Qawaneen Aur Unka Ihteram”, a marathon, a traffic quiz programme and a Naat competition.
