RAWALPINDI, May 25: People’s Labour Bureau will stage a one- day hunger strike here on Monday in protest against what it called the anti-labour Industrial Relations Ordinance 2002 of the Legal Framework Order.

Labourers from all over the Rawalpindi division will set up a hunger strike camp near the Municipal Library at Liaquat Bagh. The camp will start in the morning and continue till evening.

Decision to this effect was taken in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Raja Abdul Qayum, President People’s Bureau, Rawalpindi division.

Others, who attended the meeting included secretary information Nasir Mir, President People’s Unity of PIA Rafiq Qureshi, General Secretary Labour Union, Tehsil Municipal Administration, Mr Pervez, President Railways Workers Union Aurangzeb Khan, chief of Taxi Drivers Union Raja Mohammad Ayaz Khan, President Local Government Employees Federation Haji Farooq and heads of other different unions associated with the People’s Labour Bureau. Nasir Mir told the meeting that the hunger strike was being held on the special directives of Chairperson People’s Party Benazir Bhutto to protest against the controversial LFO and the unconstitutional laws including the anti-labour Industrial Relations Ordinance 2002. He said Ms Bhutto had also directed the central leadership to participate in the protest.
