KARACHI, July 27: The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF) are set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Aug 15 for the commissioning of a snooker academy.

The university has provided an air-conditioned hall where the PBSF will install two shender tables. When commissioned, it will be the third snooker academy in the country after Islamabad and Karachi.

The work on the Sindh Snooker Academy on Kashmir Road/Jail Road intersection here has commenced with the erection of a boundary wall.

President of the PBSF, Alamgir Shaikh and vice-chancellor of the UAF, Dr Iqrar Ahmed Khan, will formally sign the MoU in a ceremony which is due to take place at the varsity premises.

As far as the Sindh Snooker Academy is concerned, its architectural drawings followed by soil test will be sent to Karachi Buildings and Control Authority (KBCA) for necessary approval.

The issues pertaining to both academies were part of a 10-point agenda that come up for discussion in the executive committee meeting of the PBSF held at the Karachi Club annexe here the other day with its chairman Asghar Valika in the chair.

Alamgir informed the members that world amateur snooker champion Mohammad Asif and the Asian unde-21 runner-up Mohammad Majid Ali will represent the country in the Sangsom 6-Red world championship which is being held in Bangkok from Sept 2 to 7.

The former has received a special invitation from IBSF while Majid has been invited by ACBS. Javed Karim will accompany the cueists as manager.

Asif and Mohammad Sajjad will later feature in the IBSF 6-Reds and team championships being held in Carlow, Ireland, from Sept 29 to Oct 6.

The committee gave its nod for participation of the cueists in the two events.

Earlier, besides confirming the minutes of the last executive committee meeting held on May 9 this year, the meeting approved un-audited accounts of the PBSF for the year that has ended on June 30.

Alamgir, who accompanied the Pakistan snooker team as manager in the recently concluded IBSF World Under-21 Snooker Championship at Beijing, presented his report to the committee.

Besides Valika and Alamgir, the meeting was attended by senior vice-president Abdul Wahid Qadir, vice-president Jawed H. Karim, secretary Munawwar H. Shaikh, members A. Khalil Bachani, Dr. Amin P.
