ISLAMABAD: Weekly inflation rose for the 11th consecutive week, with the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) for combined income group witnessing an increase of 0.22 per cent for the week ending on July 25 as compared to the previous week.

Since May 9, the SPI is on the rise owing to increase in prices of non-perishable and perishable products, such as vegetable, pulses, edible oil, among other products, suggested data compiled by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) here on Friday.

Significant variations were witnessed in prices of essential products following introduction of new taxation measures in the budget and increase in the price of oil prices.

The SPI monitors prices of 53 items based on the survey of 17 cities and 53 markets.

The impact of prices on various income groups also witnessed variations during the week under review.

For the lowest income group earning up to Rs8,000, the SPI witnessed an increase of 0.34pc over the previous week while inflation for the top income group (Rs35,000 and above) was up by 0.16pc.

However, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed an increase of 9.48pc.

The food items, which registered substantial increase in their prices, were onions 3.10pc; wheat 3.03pc; gur 1.30pc; wheat flour 0.94pc; bananas 0.79pc; rice-irri-6 0.70pc; moong washed 0.51pc; rice basmati broken 0.41pc; mustard oil 0.40pc; tomatoes 0.35pc; mutton 0.22pc; milk fresh 0.21pc; curd 0.18pc and vegetable ghee 0.04pc.

The non-food items whose prices increased include firewood 0.29pc; kerosene oil 0.26pc; and long cloth 0.17pc.

Prices of garlic, mash washed, egg, LPG cylinder, chicken, gram pulse washed, red chillies powder, potatoes and sugar declined.
