HYDERABAD, May 23: A large number of activists of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz (Zain Shah group) held a protest demonstration at the Jamshoro railway crossing on Wednesday against construction of the Thal canal.

The protest was led by Rasool Bux Thebo, Manzoor Khaskheli, Aslam Haider Solangi, Ejaz Memon and Nawaz Kumbhar.

Speaking on the occasion, the general-secretary of the Mahaz, Rasool Bux Thebo, said construction of the canal would deepen the water crisis in the province.

He said the non-release of water downstream Kotri had destroyed the Indus Delta and rendered thousands of acres of rich agricultural land in Thatta and Badin districts barren.

He called upon the people to cooperate with the Jeay Sindh Mahaz in its struggle for the rights of the province.

The others who spoke on the occasion included Sikandar Soomro, Mansoor Khaskheli and Aslam Haider Solangi.
