QUETTA, July 22: A gang allegedly involved in extortion of money from transporters has been busted, officials said.

DIG (Investigation) Mubeen Ahmed, DIG (Operations) Fayaz Ahmed Sumbal and SSP Khalid Masood told reporters on Monday that a complaint had been received from the transport union that gunmen intercepted their vehicles on the Quetta-Chaman highway and other routes and demanded extortion.

They said a police team conducted raids in different areas and arrested three alleged extortionists — Abdul Rahim, Abdul Wahab and Aijaz Ahmed.

The DIG said the suspects had confessed to the crime.
