HYDERABAD, May 21: Leaders of various political parties and peasants’ organizations have called upon nationalist forces and Sindhi people to unite on one platform to struggle for the rights of the province.

They were speaking at the 33rd death anniversary of peasants leader Comrade Haider Bux Jatoi in Kalhoro Colony here on Wednesday.

In his presidential speech, Sindh Hari Committee (SHC) president Comrade Azhar Jatoi, who is the grandson of Haider Bux, said the late Haider Bux had not only struggled for the rights of peasants but also for the rights of the oppressed people.

He pledged to continue the struggle launched by Haider Bux for the rights of the people.

He said Sindh and its people had been subjected to excesses and resources of the province were being usurped.

Azhar Bux said elected representatives of the people who were maintaining silence on the rights of the province and had compromised on the water issue would be branded by history as traitors.

The SHC president lashed out at the government for surrendering the rights of the province.

He said all the nationalist forces, writers, intellectuals, political activists and the people of the province should unite on one platform to protect Sindh’s interests.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi paid tribute to Haider Bux for the service he had rendered in the cause of the province, saying due to his struggle six million acres of Sindh’s land was saved from being destroyed.

Dr Magsi, who is also the president of the Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement, Sindh chapter, said the services of those who had struggled for the cause of Sindh should be acknowledged.

He threatened to launch a civil disobedience movement if the rulers did not resolve the problems confronting the province. He said leaders and activists of the STPP would lead the movement and fill jails.

He said the movement might not yield immediate results but it would give a direction to a prolonged fight for the rights of Sindh.

About the greater Thal canal project, he feared that no water would be available downstream Guddu if the canal was constructed.
