GUJRANWALA, May 20: The Gujranwala Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has cancelled the May 3 Intermediate (Part-I) annual Chemistry examination due to an “unbalanced choice of questions” in the paper. The examination would again be held on May 27.
The board chairman, Dr Aslam Ghauri, denied that the board had decided to give 10 grace marks to students to compensate them in the Chemistry paper, saying that the demand was made by a committee of principals, but the board decided to give the test again instead.
The controller of examination, Ahtaram Dar, said that roll number slips of students had been forwarded to examination centres for the paper. He directed the candidates to contact the board office if they had not yet received their roll numbers.
UTILITY BILLS’ PAYMENT: Residents and traders of Khialishahpur, Sheikhupura Road, have expressed their resentment over the National Bank of Pakistan’s decision to wind up the utility bills’ booth at its Khialishahpur Sheikhupura Road branch and demanded that the facility be restored forthwith.
At a meeting of Anjuman Tajran here on Tuesday, which was presided over by its president Irfan Rafiq, the participants said that the NBP branch had been the only one providing the facility to around 50,000 people of the area.
TEXTBOOKS: Students of schools have expressed their resentment over the Punjab Textbook Board’s failure to supply Class VII and IX books in the market and demanded their immediate provision. Some parents and students quoted booksellers as saying that they had been visiting Lahore for the purpose but the books were not available.

exams system: Provincial Ombudsman Sajjad Ahmad Sipra has directed all heads of universities and education boards to revamp the examination system.
Taking notice of complaints of candidates on Tuesday, the ombudsman said that candidates should be allowed to see their answers-sheets so that they could make sure that their papers were marked in accordance with the law. The heads of universities and education board should conduct inquiries against the examination superintendents and examiners if candidates identified irregularities, he added.
SENTENCED: The anti-terrorism court handed down death sentence and fine of Rs700,000 to convicts Aurangzeb and Imran in a murder case.
The judge, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, also awarded seven years of imprisonment and fine of Rs20,000 to each of the convicts for another offence. According to the prosecution, they had killed one Arshad and set his body on fire in Garjakh last year.
SUICIDE: A teenaged girl swallowed pills to commit suicide over a domestic issue in Garjakh.
Sources said the deceased, Shamyla, had got into a quarrel with her parents over a domestic issue. Dejected, she swallowed pills. She was taken to the local DHQ hospital in critical condition where she breathed her last.
The body was handed over to the heirs following an autopsy.
