PESHAWAR, May 5: The Peshawar District Bar Association has condemned vilification campaign launched by a private television channel against Peshawar High Court and its chief justice after a judgment was delivered against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf. The high court bar demanded that Pemra should ban the said channel. An emergency cabinet meeting of the association chaired by its president Maulana Shamsul Haq here the other day passed a unanimous resolution stating that a private television channel conducted a programme in which filthy and abusive language was used against the superior judiciary, including the high court, which amounted to contempt of court.

The participants stated that the said channel deliberately tried to portray a one-sided story of the cases of Pervez Musharraf and such guests were invited who used abusive language. They added the judgment delivered by the PHC regarding nomination papers of Pervez Musharraf was in accordance with the Constitution of Pakistan and Representation of Peoples Act. Furthermore, they stated the Supreme Court in one of its judgments in 2009 had declared Pervez Musharraf a usurper and on the basis of said judgment nomination papers of Pervez Musharrarf were rejected.
