RAWALPINDI, May 5: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has asked the police to provide adequate security to its election office located at Shamsabad, saying the party was receiving terror threats.

Sources said Mian Attique Sheikh, the president of the MQM upper Punjab, told additional inspector general of police Naseemuz Zaman that his party had been receiving threats from terror groups apparently to stop it from contesting the elections.

He requested the police chief to provide security to the MQM election office.

When Mian Attique was contacted by this reporter, he said: “In the light of very serious threats to MQM office from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), I wrote to the divisional police chief to provide adequate security to our election office. But there has been very disappointing response from the RPO.”

He said when he again contacted the RPO, he was told that his application had been forwarded to the chief security officer. — Staff Reporter
