MITHI, May 2: Spiritual leader of the Ghosia Jamaat and PTI candidate for NA-230 (Tharparkar) Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said he decided to contest election from Thar to improve the living standard of Tharis.

He alleged that the elected representatives from Thar had done nothing in the past for the welfare of Tharis, leaving them to lead a miserable life.

Addressing a big public gathering at Chhachhro on Thursday, Mr Qureshi alleged that Pir Noor Mohammad Shah Jilani and Dr Ghullam Hyder Samejo had been elected twice from Thar, but they did nothing for the welfare of Tharis.

He said he was openly supporting Arbab Anwer and Abdur Razaq Rahoomo, candidates of the Peoples Muslim League (Arbab group), for PS 62 and PS 63 .

He alleged that Mushrraf and Zia could not cause such harm to the PPP that had been caused by Mr Zardari.

Mr Qureshi said Mr Zardari had spent a huge amount of money to field PPP candidates against him, but such designs would be foiled.

“The PPP of Shaheeds has been buried in Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto and the existing PPP is not of the Bhuttos but of Zardari whose government could not expose the assassins of Benazir Bhutto despite remaining in power for five years,” he said.

“I may not win elections from Thar, but I will remain here for addressing the problems of downtrodden Tharis,’’ Mr Qureshi said.

A large number of disciples of the Hur Jamaat and Ghosia Jamaat were present in the gathering that was also attended by Haji Qasim Soomro, Aban Ali Rahoomo, Abdur Razaq Rahoomo, Sher Khan Samejo, Arbab Ali Samejo and others.
