KARACHI, May 1: Youthful M. Raza Sawani fought a grim battle while routing Ibrahim Iltifat in three absorbing sets to reach juniors under-17 singles final in the Sindh Open ranking tennis championship at Karachi Gymkhana on Wednesday.

Sawani fought back into the game from one set down to post 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 victory over his opponent.

He meets the winner of other semi-final to be played between Talha Zubair Surmawala and Murad Khan.

Meanwhile, Davis Cupper Aqeel Khan conjured up a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Talha Zubair in the first round and face Abdul Rehman in the quarters on Thursday.

Khalid Ali Nazar and the pair of brothers, Jalil Khan and Yasir Khan have reached the last four in men’s singles.

Results: Men’s singles: First round: Aqeel Khan bt Talha Zubair Surmawala 6-4, 6-0.

Quarter-finals: Khalid Ali Nazar bt Fahim Ramzan 6-0, 6-0; Jalil Khan bt Vinod Das 7-5, 6-0.

Juniors’ under-17 singles: Quarter-finals: Murad Khan bt Maheen Dada 6-1, 6-3; Talha Zubair Surmawala bt Aqeel Shabbir 6-4, 6-3.

Semi-finals: M. Raza Sawani bt Ibrahim Iltifat 4-6, 6-3, 10-3.

Boys and girls under-15 singles: Quarter-final: Sahibzada M. Ali bt Soad M. Ali 6-3, 6-3.

Boys and girls under-13 singles: Quarter-finals: Zubair Raja bt M. Ahmed Ehtisham 7-5, 3-6, 10-5; Amin Shafi bt Ebad Ahmed 6-4, 7-5; Ajay Kumar bt Rayyan Jawwad 6-3, 7-6 (3); Bilal Imran bt Ebad 1-6, 6-2, 10-4 (walkover).

Semi-final: Bilal Imran bt Ajay Kumar 1-6, 6-2, 10-4.

Boys and girls under-11 singles: Quarter-finals: M. Dada bt Muneeb Aleem 8-0; Yahya Ehtisham bt Daniyal Mujtaba 8-0; Amin Shafi bt Abdullah Khan 8-0; Rayyan Jawwad bt Asheesh 8-3.

Semi-finals: M. Dada bt Yahya Ehtisham 8-2; Amin Shafi bt Rayyan Jawwad 8-3.

Boys and girls under-9 singles: First round: Yahya Ehtisham bt Mustafa Aftab 8-0; M. Ahmed Ahmadani bt Abdullah Javed (walkover); Abdullah Khan bt Saim Danish 8-0.
