KARACHI, Dec 11: The European Commission’s directorate general for education and culture, Brussels, has awarded the prestigious Jean Monnet Chair in Political Science to the Karachi University.
Vice-chancellor Karachi University, Prof Dr Zafar Said Saifi, has appreciated the directorate general for awarding the university the prestigious Chair and termed it an honour.
The Jean Monnet Chair has been established for universities throughout the world. It is a pilot initiative offering a symbolic support to the European integration specialists with the aim of lending greater visibility to their work in this field.
Prof Dr Naveed A. Tahir, director of the KU’s Area Study Centre for Europe (ASCE), would be the director of the Chair, a KU spokesman said on Tuesday.
Dr Naveed holds a Ph.D. in European Studies from the Karachi University and a Master’s degree in International relations from the same institution.
She has a long experience of research in the field of International Relations. She is also the director of the European Union sponsored European Studies Programme at the ASCE. She is a member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Group formed by the present government.
Dr Naveed has written a number of books and research papers. She has also edited and compiled 11 books published by the ASCE.
Vice-chancellor of the Karachi University has congratulated her on her achievement.
BDS EXAM FORMS: The KU examinations department has announced that all those candidates studying at the affiliated dental colleges can submit their examination forms for Final Prof. Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS) till Jan 5, 2001.
PHYSIOTHERAPY EXAM FORMS: The examinations department has also announced that the 4th Year B.Sc Physiotherapy (new course) candidates of the School of Physiotherapy, the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and the Liaquat National Hospital of the 1997 batch can submit their examinations forms till Jan 5, 2002.
Candidates of B.Sc Physiotherapy part-II(additional subject) supplementary examinations 2001, who are studying at the School of Physiotherapy, the JPMC and the Liaquat National Hospital, can also submit their examinations forms up to Jan 5, 2002.
WORKSHOP: The KU has announced that a two-day workshop on the “Paradigms of Conflict Resolution in South Asia” will be held on December 22-23 at the conference room of the department of International Relations.
The workshop is being held under the “Program on Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution” of the department. It will be attended by prominent scholars from Pakistan as well as other South Asian countries.—APP/PPI
