I WOULD like to draw the attention of key stakeholders to the rising incidence of road accidents on the Indus Highway and the rising number of people killed on a regular basis.

Most accidents have proved fatal and disastrous.

So far no serious measure has been taken to deal with the vulnerable conditions of roads. This simply shows the lack of seriousness of the National Highway Authority that collects a heavy amount of toll tax but does not utilise it for the safety of travellers.

The way the Indus Highway is structured is quite dangerous. It passes through highly populated areas and has dangerous zigzags that become very difficult for a person to predict the opposite vehicle coming from the other side.

Also, sub-roads which are connected with the Indus Highway are in poor condition and hence cause serious accidents.

With no code of conduct in place to regulate the speed of vehicles and the proper flow of transportation, currently heavy trucks, coaches, cars and even bikes are using this road for travel. I would, therefore, request the authorities concerned to address the people’s grievances and take some concrete measure to ensure the safety of human lives.
