RIYADH, May 16: Fourteen Umra pilgrims, including two Pakistanis, were killed and 30 others injured in a fire that swept through a hotel in Makkah on Thursday evening.

The Pakistanis were identified as Jullunder Khan and Shayer Ahmad Sharif, Pakistan House director Asim Majeed told Dawn.

Some reports indicate a Pakistani child was among the dead.

The Saudi authorities investigating the incident said Fundaq Khuzendar caught fire due to some ‘technical reasons’.

The nationality of other deceased was established as five Saudis, two Yemenis and four Egyptians.

The injured include eight Pakistanis. Seven of them were released from the hospital after the first- aid. One Pakistani was reported to be among those still under treatment.
