ISLAMABAD, May 16: The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) has submitted a report to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman asking him to shift jailed Pakistan People’s Party leader Asif Zardari to Aga Khan Hospital, Karachi.

A source told Dawn that the report had been submitted to the NAB since Mr Zardari, husband of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, was being lodged at a sub-jail inside the hospital.

“The decision to shift Mr Zardari to Karachi now rests with the NAB and the hospital has nothing to do with it,” a hospital official said.

Mr Zardari is detained at Pims since November 1996.

The source said a consultant of the nephrology department had submitted a report to the hospital management stating that Mr Zardari had developed some kidney problem like nephritis.
