ATTOCK, June 2: The killing of JUP-N’s General Secretary Attock district Muhammad Dawood Mustafai sparks massive protest among the party activists and among native residents Pind Sultani village, who set the house of accused Sardar Ameer Khan on fire.

After 10 hour long protests on Saturday, the Kohat-Pindi highway was opened for traffic, after registration of a murder and attempted murder case against the 26 accused persons from Sardar Ameer’s group. Protestors demanded that all accused persons, especially mastermind Sardar Ameer, should be arrested before holding of funeral prayer on Sunday 10 am, otherwise Inter-provincial highway would again be blocked.

The police teams under the supervision of district Police officer (DPO) have conducted raids at different areas and arrested about seven accused persons but found no clue of masterminded Sardar Ameer. Sources assumed that perhaps Mr Ameer escaped to Khyber Paktunkhawa (KPK) to avoid his arrest.

About 2000 activists of JUP-N and others religious parties from Attock and adjacent areas along with local people were again gathered at Kohat-Pindi road by taking coffin of deceased Mr Mustafai on Sunday morning.

After offering funeral prayer on the road, the protestors started chanting slogans against the police and alleged killers. Heavy police force was already deployed to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, some local political leaders, including PTI’s central leader Malik Suhail Khan also joined the protest to condemn the incident and express solidarity.

In the meantime the angry protestors, who were holding wood sticks and iron bars become infuriated and started marching towards the house of accused Sardar Ameer and later burnt it completely.

However, house inmates escaped well before the attack.

Afterwards, they have also blocked Attock-Pindigheb road by creating hurdles at the Basal chowk, which is junction of Pindi-Kohat and Attock-Basal roads.

Due to aggressive and violent mood of mob, the police could not take any strict action.

However, the police officials with the help of some local notables insisted that the protestors bury the deceased Mr Mustafai, but they refused to do so until the arrest of accused Mr Ameer.

The protestors have kept the coffin of Mr Mustafai in an air conditioned ambulance to avoid hot weather effect.

Meanwhile the administration sought help of newly elected MNA Malik Itabar Khan to resolve the issue, who was in Islamabad attending the new National Assembly session.

Ultimately, after successful negotiations between the protestors, MNA Mr Itabar and the DPO Abdul Kadir Qamar, the eight hour long protest ended on the assurance that all accused persons would be arrested within 72 hours.

Later they were dispersed from the scene about 6 pm and Mr. Mustafai was buried in the local graveyard.

FIR REGISTERED: Basal Police station have registered a murder and attempted murder case against the 26 persons including 15 nominated are Sardar Ameer advocate, Muhammad Iqbal (hired killer from KPK), Muhammad Abbass, Abdul Ghafoor, Shakeel, Hashim Jan, Muqadar Abbass, Sabir, Nawaz, Imran, Muhammad Shafique, Boolah, Mumtaz, Muhammad Rafiue and Ameerdad.

While 11 others are unidentified accused. Out of them, seven accused were arrested by the police and search continues for remaining, including Sardar Ameer. The case was registered on the report of Muhammad Dawood Naqeebi, brother of deceased Mr Mustafai.

This alleged that his brother was killed and three others relative were also seriously injured, when they tried to vacate agriculture land of a local poor farmer from the possession of Ameer’s group, which they had occupied forcibly some days back.

COMMUTERS HARDSHIP: Due to 10 hours long traffic suspension on Saturday, the traffic link between the Rawalpindi-Kohat and connecting link roads also remained suspended causing great hardship and inconvenience for drivers and commuters especially of women, children and elderly people.

An eye witness informed that hundreds of vehicles, including trucks, trailers and buses have been stuck near Pind Sultani village and Basal chowk on Kohat-Pindi highway due to massive protest demonstration.

The situation was vulnerable for commuters, who had to resort to roadside hotels and shops to fulfill need of food, water and others necessities till the end of protest, he added.
