BAHAWALPUR, May 11: A four-member committee constituted by the district council began probing into the use of substandard material in the laying of sewerage pipelines in Model Town C here on Sunday.

For this purpose, the committee visited the site and thoroughly checked the material, sewerage pipelines, manholes and other items being used by the contractor. The committee also seized two pipes for the laboratory test.

The committee was constituted on Saturday in the district council meeting when a member, Safdar Shehbaz, pointed out the chair that substandard material was allegedly being used by the contractor. He further alleged that non-technical method was being applied in the laying of sewerage pipelines.

At this, the house constituted the committee comprising complainant Safdar Shehbaz, finance and planning EDO Syed Tassadaq Hussain Bukhari, DO (planning) Dr Muhammad Aslam and tehsil officer Malik Muhammad Nawaz.

The committee is likely to submit its report within a week.
