US special envoy James Dobbins visits Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador James Dobbins traveled to Pakistan May 29-30, his first trip to the country in his new capacity.

Ambassador Dobbins met with Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, Chief of Army Staff Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, and prime minister-elect Nawaz Sharif.

Ambassador Dobbins spoke by phone with President Asif Ali Zardari who was in Karachi.

Ambassador Dobbins offered congratulations to the people of Pakistan on the historic May 11 elections and underscored the United States' commitment to working with the next democratically-elected government to build a strong, mutually beneficial bilateral relationship.

During his engagements, Ambassador Dobbins and his interlocutors discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues, including advancing shared counterterrorism objectives; increasing economic opportunity; strengthening civilian democracy and civil society; and supporting an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led reconciliation process.

Nawaz should not have met him after the drone attack. Its a shameful act that they drone our citizens and next day come to visit our leaders. It is not a question at all that who they kill, its about a foriegn nation bombing on our soils.

@ aj - drone killed someone belonging to TTP. the same TTP is beheading our soldiers, depriving our kids of anti-polio vaccine, wagging jihad on innocent civilians, inciting sectarian strifes and the list goes on and on... every war has a collateral damage, if that was done by PAF you won't say a word, the disappearances of balochs don't count for politicians and civilians alike long-marching to Quetta - this Nation needs to Stop having double standards. its us Pakistanis who are the problems not the Americans...

The prime minister should not meet any US envoy. Pakistan MUST dIstance itself from USA until this violation of its airspace is suspended.
