VEHARI, May 10: A local court on Saturday handed down death sentence and fined Rs200,000 each to an SHO and an ASI for kidnapping and torturing to death an innocent citizen.

They will have to undergo a six-month imprisonment if they default in the payment of fine.

Fateh Shah SHO Rana Umer Younas along with ASI Noor Muhammad and other policemen had raided the house of Abdul Latif at Mujahid Colony, Burewala, on Oct 15, 1997. They took away Latif to some unknown place without registering any case against him and tortured him to death. Later, they threw his body into a nearby canal. The victim’s family moved the Lahore High Court Multan bench on whose orders Fateh Shah police registered a case against the accused policemen. After investigation, both the policemen were found guilty of charges.
