FREE TOWN (Sierra Leone), May 10: Ambassador Oluyemi Adeniji, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Sierra Leone, on Thursday said Pakistan troops deployed on the eastern border, the most sensitive and troubled region in the entire country, have performed exceptionally well during their two-year stay under the UN flag in Sierra Leone.

He made these remarks during an exclusive interview with APP at Mammyoko hotel here.

Speaking high about the professionalism and discipline of the Pakistan troops deployed as part of the UNAMSIL, he said the most important thing about them was that they had been able to win hearts and minds of the people within their area of responsibility, which had facilitated them to work in a smooth and congenial environment.

“Their task has been up to the mark and their judgment and far-sightedness to deal with the challenging situation proved their worth,” he said.

He said the humanitarian assistance like provision of food, free medical camps, construction of roads and provision of other civic amenities, deserved special appreciation.—APP
