LAHORE, May 20: An exclusive screening of a feature film “art=(love)2” made in New York by a Pakistani film director Mumtaz Husain will be held at National College of Arts on Tuesday (today).

A number of students from different art institutions, film fanciers and parallel cinema lovers are expected to the event. Film director Mr Husain has come from USA to be part of the screening.

The much acclaimed film has won awards at Lucerne International Film Festival, Nevada Film Festival and Jaipur International Film Festival. It will be screened in Pakistan for the first time.

Mr Husain, a 1984 NCA gradate, is a known film director, producer and writer. The film is a story of a struggling artist who is in love with a Maths student Isabella. When she dies mysteriously he puts every effort into understanding how? Circumventing the police and concerned friends he chooses a path of creative madness. His paintings reflect the working of an extraordinary mind, and with their help he transcends art in to science and from science into the realm of the unknown. But is there life after love?

The 90-minute movie strongly represents the tradition of parallel or independent cinema. The entire cast is from Hollywood. Husain’s paintings are in several universities as part of their permanent collection. His book of short stories “gool ainak ka pechay” has been published in Urdu and two books in Urdu and English are ready for publication.

Mr. Husain’s film “Soul of Civilization” has been shown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. He has completed five additional films: “This is my Pakistan” for Pakistani TV Channel GEO; “Inside You”, “Push Button for”, and “Butterfly Screams.”

His latest venture, “art=(love)2” will be screened in Pakistan on Tuesday (today).
