KARACHI, May 20: Top seed Talha Zubair Surmawala and unseeded Nazif Ahmed reached the juniors’ under-18 singles semi-finals in contrasting styles at the second National Bank of Pakistan Open national juniors and seniors tennis championship at Karachi Gymkhana on Monday.

While Talha won his match against qualifier Aaiman Ashok by default after latter failed to turn up for the fixture, Nazif struggled to overcome Murad Khan 6-4, 0-6, 10-8 in the other encounter.

Talha sets up a semi-final clash against fourth seed Aqeel Shabbir while Nazif faces the winner of the match between Mohammad Dada and Adnan Tufail.

Results:

Juniors’ under-18 singles: Quarter-finals: Talha Zubair Surmawala bt Aaiman Ashok (walkover); Nazif Ahmed bt Murad Khan 6-4, 0-6, 10-8.

Juniors’ under-18 girls: Semi-final: Hania Naveed bt Alina Aftab 5-7, 6-1, 10-6.

Boys’ under-14 singles: First round: Jalaludin Babar bt Rayyan Jawad 6-1, 6-1. Quarter-final: M. Raza Sawani bt Mohammad Dada 6-0, 6-0. Semi-final: Sahibzada M. Ali bt Ebad Sarwar 2-6, 7-6, 10-5.

Girls’ under-14 singles: First round: Kinza Ghanchi bt Mahnoor Jamshed 7-5, 6-2. Tuesday’s fixtures: Matches start at 2.30pm.—Sports Correspondent
