LARKANA, May 16: A team of the Sukkur FIA nabbed two employees of the National Bank, Naudero branch, on Thursday after an audit team found a shortage of around Rs7.4 million.

The suspects were identified as cash custodian Munwwar Ali Soomro and joint cash custodian Muharram Ali Leghari.

Sources close to the probe body told Dawn that the cash custodian had locked himself in the strong room after taking tranquillisers three days ago. But he was rescued and admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital in a state of unconsciousness.

When the FIA team conducted an extensive audit of cash, bonds and gold in the lockers, it found some valuables missing.

The sources said the bank employees had offered the locker-owner to settle the matter mutually but the latter reportedly turned down the offer. The NBP probe team investigating the matter, submitted its findings on Thursday with the bank’s regional manager, Larkana.
