TIMERGARA, May 10: Independent candidate for NA-34, Lower Dir seat Dr Bahramand has announced to support Mohammad Zamin of Pakistan People’s Party in the PK-96 constituency.

The announcement was made the other day at Zamin Khan’s hujra, where Dr Bahramand had gone to offer condolences over the killing of the former’s brother, Zahir Shah Khan, in a bomb blast in Maidan.

Dr Bahramand said he and his supporters in PK-96 would vote for Zamin Khan as a gesture of sympathy to his family.

“Though I’ve withdrawn my candidature from this provincial assembly constituency, I still have a good number of voters here. They all will vote for Zamin Khan on May 11,” he said.

Dr Bahramand, a former Jamaat-i-Islami union council nazim from Maidan, is also contesting election from the PK-93 constituency as an independent candidate.

Also in the day, former PPP provincial president Rahim Dad Khan along with other party leaders, Malakand commissioner Fakhre Alam, deputy commissioner Mohammad Zubair and assistant commissioner Tariq Ali visited Zamin Khan and offered condolences to him over the killing of his brother.

TEACHERS’ DEMAND: The Teachers’ Coordination Council, Lower Dir has complained that majority of teachers, who had been assigned election duties, would not be able to cast vote on May 11 due to non-issuance of postal ballot papers.

A meeting in this respect was held at Balambat the other day.

Council chairman Mohammad Shah chaired the meeting, where CT Association president Mohammad Shoaib, APTA, Lower Dir president Abdul Hameed Jan, and ATA leaders Haji Bahadar Said, Sirajuddin, Ikramullah, Bakht Nawaz and Naseebullah were in attendance.

TCC chairman Mohammad Shah told participants that postal ballot papers had not been issued to majority of teachers in the district and as they had been deputed in faraway places, they won’t be able to cast vote.

He said thousands of applications for postal ballet papers had been sent to the district returning officers but postal ballot papers had been issued to a few teachers.

Mr Shah demanded that the Election Commission of Pakistan and district returning officer, Lower Dir make necessary arrangements for teachers to exercise their franchise.
