ISLAMABAD, May 8: Former railways minister and sitting Senator Javed Ashraf Qazi allegedly involved in a Pakistan Railways’ land scam has been declared innocent by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

A NAB’s spokesman told reporters at a briefing on Thursday at the NAB Headquarters that investigations against the sitting senator had almost been completed and so far no clue was found against him.

Investigations are being conducted against Mr Qazi on a complaint filed by PML-N spokesman Siddique ul Farooq, who claimed that the senator was involved in the illegal sale of 100 sites on railway’s land.

The NAB’s official said Mr Qazi was not involved in the scam as alleged by the PML-N office-bearer.

He said that most of the irregularities in the sale had been committed by senior officials of the Pakistan Railways and not by the senator. “Mr Qazi cannot be declared responsible for the deeds of his sub-ordinates,” the NAB’s spokesman said.
