TOBA TEK SINGH, May 7: The district and sessions judge of Toba Tek Singh on Wednesday adjourned till May 14 hearing of the bail plea of District Bar Association’s former general secretary Chaudhry Tanvir Husain.

The lawyer had sought confirmation of the pre-arrest bail earlier granted to him by the court.

Advocate Tanvir Husain was booked on the charge of attacking Tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Rafiq.

City police registered on Wednesday a case against the Tehsil Nazim on the charge of threatening advocate Tanvir Husain of dire consequences.

Meanwhile, class IV employees and sanitary staff of the tehsil municipal administration took out a procession in favour of the tehsil Nazim. They were chanting slogans against Tanvir Husain and demanding his arrest.

BOOKED: Kamalia city police registered on Wednesday a case against 16 members of a land grabbers group.

Housing and physical planning department’s district officer said in an application that led by Abdul Sattar, the men have unlawfully occupied state land in Kamalia.

The application said that 14 residential plots in Kamalia’s low-income housing scheme were got vacated from the possession of the accused a few days ago.

Police said some of the accused had been arrested.

CONDEMNED: Local leaders of various parties have condemned the firing on military farms’ tenants by Okara police and Rangers.

Speaking at a joint press conference here on Wednesday, they demanded registration of case against the officials involved in firing on tenants who were holding a peaceful demonstration for the acceptance of their demands.

Pakistan Kissan Committee president Chaudhry Fateh Muhammad, PPP’s former MPA Mian Muhammad Rafiq, National Workers Party district president Azam Khan and Kissan Committee district president Chaudhry Abdul Latif also demanded immediate release of all arrested tenants and their leaders.

Millat Party’s Punjab chief organizer Ghiasuddin Janbaz demanded ownership rights for the tenants.
