ARD to meet in Islamabad

LAHORE, May 6: Heads of parties in the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy are meeting in Islamabad on Friday to review progress on the government-opposition talks on the Legal Framework Order and the peace overtures between Pakistan and India.

Two important components of the ARD, the PPP-Parliamentarians and the PML-N, will take part in the talks the government is holding to settle differences on the package of constitutional amendments, which give cover to all steps taken by Gen Musharraf during his three-year rule in addition to extending his term as president by another five years.

Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, the alliance chief who will preside over the meeting, is leaving here for the federal capital on Wednesday. ARD Secretary-General Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has sent invitations to all the alliance components.

The Nawabzada is critical of the government’s eagerness to hold talks with India, as he believes that no outcome could be expected.
