Enjoying Musharraf`s powers

Published December 18, 2009

THIS is apropos of Mazhar Abbas's letter (Dec 9). Asif Ali Zardari, at present, is enjoying nothing but the powers of his predecessor which he is gradually trying to transfer to their due owner in the democratic setup that we have.

My request to politicians, policymakers, thinkers and journalists is to let the democratic process go ahead with its actualisation and educate the masses about who should have how much powers.

Letting the system go on and on would make the old mindset to believe in real democracy which hitherto has remained just a dream for us Pakistanis.

It is time all of us came forward and supported the parliamentary system by allowing the president to continue the move towards a parliamentary system rather than oppose him on every issue.

If we do this it will lead the country on the path of progress and prosperity.
