DADU, May 4: A large number of people including political and NGO activists held a protest demonstration on Sunday against the shortage of water and failure of the sewerage system in Dadu town.

The protesters marched on the main roads of the town and held a demonstration outside the press club for an hour.

They were led by the president, Marooara Welfare Association, Mohammad Rajab Shahani, and JSQM leader Liaquat Ali Leghari.

Addressing the protesters, Mr Shahani said that the water supply and sewerage systems of the town had collapsed due to apathy of the Taluka municipal administration.

He said that diseases were spreading due to the collapse of the sewerage system, and added that several children including Gudo Qambrani, Azeem Qambrani, Azeem Lashari, and Imtiaz Leghari had been admitted to hospitals.

DEMO: Passengers held a protest demonstration outside the press club on Sunday against the police for not controlling the law and order situation.

Some outlaws had blocked the Indus Highway at Choudagi, near Dadu town, late Saturday night and looted at least 40 passengers. Three passengers were also beaten up severely when they offered resistance.

EIGHT INJURED: Eight people were injured in a clash between two groups of Babar tribesmen in the Golo Daryo village in Khairpur Taluka, Nathan Shah, on Sunday.

Guns and axes were freely used in the clash as a result of which Mohammad Khan, Riaz Hussain, Haji Khan, Aijaz Ali, Mohammad Suleman, Gul Mohammad, Zameer and Nawaz were injured seriously.

GUTTED: Four huts were gutted when fire broke out in the Selaro village in Mehar Taluka on Sunday.

PROTEST: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz (Zain Shah group) held a protest demonstration in Sann town on Sunday against the registration of a case against their leader, Syed Zain Shah, in Larkana district.
