SUKKUR, May 2: The judge, Anti-Terrorism Court-III, Sukkur, Naimatullah Phulpoto, sentenced an accused, Rasoolo alias Rasool Bakhsh, to death in a murder case on Friday.

The court also ordered that he pay a compensation of Rs100,000 to the heirs of the constable, Abdul Razzak, of the Gudu police station.

The accused were tried in case No74/1999 under section 302(b) read with section 149, 324, 353 read with 149 PPC, and 7-ATA 1997 registered at the Gudu police station, Jacobabad district.

The other co-accused, who remain absconding, in the case — Khuda Bakhsh, Sharoo, Fareed and Nek Mohammad — were also awarded capital punishment and have to pay a compensation of Rs350,000 each, otherwise they will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for seven more years.

An encounter had taken place between a police patrolling party and the above-mentioned accused in the jurisdiction of the Gudu police station on May 13, 1999. Constable Abdul Razzak had been killed when the accused opened fire. The accused had also taken away a G-3 rifle from the constable.—APP
