KARACHI, April 29 A three-day course for basketball technical officials and coaches commenced at the Dr Zaki Hasan auditorium in Jinnah University College (JUC) on Thursday with an unprecedented number of participants.

Over 100 men and women across the city including 30 students of Health and Physical Education department, University of Karachi, are attending the course which has been organised by the Sindh Amateur Basketball Association (SABA) in collaboration with the Jinnah University College.

The opening day's session which lasted for over four hours witnessed two lectures by course conductor Ms Amna Mukhtar and Dr Mazahir Zia and practical demonstration by coaches Zafar Iqbal and Tariq Hussain.

Amna dwelt on the basics of the game while Mazahir spoke on prevention of injuries in basketball.

At the outset, former international of repute and president of the association, Brig (retired) Rashid Malik, commended the efforts of secretary SABA Abdul Nasir and Amna for creating awareness of rules and regulations among the new generation.

He hoped that the participants would learn the techniques of the game and deliver the goods.

The opening ceremony was attended among others by president of the Karachi City District Amateur Basketball Association Amjad Ali, veteran players Mohammad Yaqoob and Raza Agha and a CDGK official Mushtaq Ahmed.
