LANDI KOTAL, March 31: A total of 55 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the two National Assembly seats of Khyber Agency.

Details gathered from the offices of returning officers for NA-45 (Jamrud-cum-Landi Kotal) and NA-46 (Bara) show that 27 candidates have submitted nominations papers from NA-45 and 28 aspirants from NA-46.

Prominent among the contestants are former MNAs Noorul Haq Qadri, Hameedullah Jan Afridi, Senator Haji Khan, former senators Nasir Khan and Mohammad Shah and former federal minister Waris Khan.

Mr Hameedullah has decided to contest elections from both the constituencies while Mr Qadri's elder brother Abdul Mailk has submitted his papers as covering candidate for him from NA-45.

Pakistan People’s Party has awarded its ticket to Hazrat Wali for NA-45, but the party's Fata chief organiser Waris Khan has announced to contest election from N-46 as an independent candidate.

Similarly, Awami National Party has awarded its ticket to Malik Darya Khan from NA-45, but its provincial vice-president Imran Afridi announced to contest as an independent candidate.

Jamaat-i-Islami candidates include Shah Faisal from Na-46 and Zar Noor Afridi from NA-45. Jamiat Ulama Islam (JUI-F) has also fielded its candidates from both the constituencies, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is yet to decide its candidate from NA-45. Suhail Khan is PML-N candidate from Bara. Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf is yet to award tickets to its candidates for both the constituencies. However, eight of its activists have submitted their papers.

Meanwhile, Jahangir Azam Wazir, RO for NA-45, has said that the political administration has devised a security plan for holding free, fair and transparent elections in Jamrud and Landi Kotal.

Talking to media persons, he said that an emergency cell had been established at his office in Jamrud where candidates could register complaints, if any.

KOHAT: At least 56 candidates from different parties and independents have filed nomination papers for NA-14, Kohat, and three provincial assembly constituencies till Sunday evening.

According to the list received by regional election commission office, Kohat, 38 candidates have filed papers for NA-16 and two provincial assembly seats in the nearby Hangu district.

Former minister Amjid Afridi has filed papers from PK-37 and PK-38, Kohat, as an independent candidate after ditching Awami National Party. Former MPAs, Iqbal Din Fana and Iftikharurdin Khattak and ex-MNA Ibrar Sultan, are in the arena to contest for KP-39, Kohat-III.

For KP-37, Hidayatullah Khan Afridi, Nawabzada Alamzeb Khan and Amjid Afridi are said to be the main contenders.

In NA-14, Kohat, former MNA Khurshid Begum would face Gohar Khan Bangash of JUI-F, Shamim Afridi, independent, and former MNA Dilawar Shah.

In Hangu, former MPAs Fareed Mufakkir and Mufti Said Janan of JUI-F are also in the run for PA seat. Former MNA Haider Ali Shah had filed nomination papers for NA-16 on ANP ticket.

GHALANAI: About 54 candidates have submitted nomination papers for the NA-36 tribal area-I constituency of Mohmand Agency.

According to the agency election commission sources, about 54 candidates, including some independents, have submitted nomination papers for NA-36.

Jamaat-i-Islami leader Mohammad Saeed Khan, JUI-F leader Maulana Mohammad Sadiq, Ex-MNA Malik Bilal Rehman, ex-Senator Abdul Wahid, PPP local president Farooq Afzal, PM-N leader Zar Khan, PML-Q president Azmat Khan and Malik Nisar Momand (independent) have filed their nominations, while Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf has not yet finalised its candidate though at least two of its activists have filed nominations. The ANP has issued ticket to Nair Mohmand, but he submitted his papers as independent. Similarly, Malik Sadbar Khan also submitted nomination papers as independent candidate.
