KARACHI, Feb 21: A police constable was killed in what officials described as an encounter with bandits in Machhar Colony within the remit of the Docks police station on Thursday.

The police said that the shootout took place in the Bengalipara area of Machhar Colony when suspected bandits opened fire on a police patrol. During the exchange of fire, they added, police constable Muslim Shah, 48, sustained gunshot wounds.

The bandits managed to escape, the officials said.

They said the wounded police constable was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi where he died during treatment.

Constable Muslim Shah was posted at the Garden police headquarters, officials said.
