KARACHI, Jan 9: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested five suspected militants belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in a Baldia Town area for their alleged involvement in 50 terrorism cases, including killing of two polio workers.

Speaking at a press conference, Additional Inspector-General of CID Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh said that the five suspects — Ayub, Mohsin Khan, Bilal, Tauseef Ali and Saifullah — were arrested in Ittehad Town following a shoot-out.

He said that since one of the suspects, Bilal, was a disabled person, the alleged terrorists had rigged his

three-wheeler with explosives and were planning to target some important personalities with the explosives-laden three-wheeler at the airport.

He said that the police also recovered five hand-grenades, two pressure cookers, nine explosives-filled tennis balls, four AK-47 assault rifles, five pistols and 25 kilograms of explosives.

The CID chief said that the suspects were involved in a recent bomb blast near Aisha Manzil after the conclusion of a public meeting organised by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

He said that the suspects also killed two lady health workers taking part in the anti-polio drive in the Mochko area.

He said that the suspects were also involved in a recent attack on a police kiosk in Toori Bangash Colony in Orangi Town.

The suspects were also said to be involved in the killings of at least three policemen in the city.
