KARACHI, Dec 9: A young man was shot dead in a New Karachi area on Sunday evening, police said.

They said that assail ants riding a motorbike opened fire on a man driving a car near the Power-house Chowrangi and rode away.  The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“The victim has been identified as Mairaj Qureshi, 30. He was driving his car and was alone when he was targeted,” said New Karachi SP Syed Salman Hussain.

He said it was not yet clear whether he had any affiliation with any political or religious party.

The police said the assailants used a 9mm pistol in the shooting, as investigators found a few spent bullet casings at the crime scene.
